Landgate Training
Project Overview
In today’s data-driven world, Earth Observation (EO) analytics plays a critical role in informing decision-making and driving sustainable practices across government departments. In response to this growing need for enhanced analytical capabilities and more effective use of EO data, ASDAF recently delivered a one day specialised training program on EO analytics for staff from multiple government departments, following an initial request from Landgate.
This one day training session, delivered by Leigh Tyers (CIDS/ASDAF) with assistance from Calvin Pang (CIDS/ASDAF), provided an introductory overview of the acquisition and manipulation of EO imagery. With a hands-on focus inspired by the “Software Carpentries”, participants improved their foundational understanding of how to access, process, and analyse remote sensing data in Python.
The feedback from this workshop was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the engaging and interactive approach to learning, and with many participants saying the training was immediately applicable to their work. By enhancing the skills of government staff, they’re now better able to harness EO data to understand environmental health, track urban growth, and inform decisions that promote sustainability.
